Response Paper #3
" Buried Child” A Play by Sam Shepard
This is a strange play for me. Here you've got an old gentleman, Dodge, resting on a chair smoking, drinking, and watching TV while his wife, Halie, is upstairs talking about the rain and nagging him to take a pill intended for his cough. We find away that the most ancient son, Tilden, is mentally unstable or perhaps slow or something and may no longer care for himself. We discover the second son, Bradley, cut off his leg in a chainsaw accident and can't take care of him self either, the next son, Ansel, is lifeless; and all the while Halie is getting dressed to go out to with the preacher. This is almost all kind of hilarious in itself.
Very well, this guy, Vincent, who statements to be the grand son, Tilden's kid, and his girl Shelly appear. Apparently no-one recognizes him. Not his father or grandfather. I am just kind of with Shelly that they should just keep, maybe come back later, nevertheless Vincent understands he's certainly not crazy whether or not Dodge and Tilden think he is. I actually don't understand this part genuinely. Either Vincent is or isn't portion of the family and why don't they understand him especially if he's just been eliminated 6 years. We all never really understand the reason nevertheless after Vincent leaves the home to get Dodge a few whiskey and comes back drunk, like almost everybody else is, the next morning they all of the sudden deal with him like he never left. Odd!
The whole time Vincent is fully gone poor aged Shelly is within that property by herself with Dodge and Tilden. Tilden keeps hinting at an awful thing that happened and explains to her bits of the story but Dodge will keep yelling at him not really too. Thus there is this kind of big secret we all know but no one is supposed to speak about. Then crazy Bradley is available in scaring off Tilden and yelling at Dodge and frightening Shelly. Poor woman doesn't know what to think and she's right now there all by himself. I'd be freaking away too. For any Shelly...
